The baseball world is in the middle of the World Series, and my favorite team, the Texas Rangers, are playing in their first World Series ever! I have been a Rangers fan for as long as I can remember, actually all my love for baseball started with the Rangers. So, needless to say, I was THRILLED when they FINALLY beat those yankees, won the Pennant and made it to the Fall Classic!
When I first started cheering for the Rangers, my favorite player was Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez. At the time, he was the catcher for the Rangers and a fan favorite. He played many seasons for the Rangers and was beloved by everyone, but in some crazy business deal (umm...let's not get into it, let's just say Alex Rodriguez is my least favorite player, ever), he was traded. But everyone in Texas still loves Pudge. I met Pudge and many of the Rangers when I was in high school, how excited I was to meet my favorite player!
Anyway, Nolan Ryan (Hall of Fame, former Ranger, current President of the organization) threw out the first pitch in Game 3 of the World Series and Pudge was part of the opening ceremonies! He caught the ceremonial first pitch! When Pudge was a rookie he was Nolan Ryan's catcher. A great moment for Rangers fans!
Pudge and Nolan Ryan share a very memorable moment in baseball history. The legendary brawl when Robin Ventura (whom I met in Omaha) charged the mound, but 40+ year old Nolan Ryan and Pudge put the then-rookie Ventura in his place!
Game 4 was also a memorable moment. George W. Bush used to be part owner of the organization. He and George H.W. Bush threw out the first pitch and this time Nolan Ryan was the catcher. I hope the Rangers continue to play hard and do well in the World Series, everyone would love a World Championship in Arlington!
My Texas Rangers themed pumpkin, Go Rangers!!
