Golden Eagle Football Kickoff!!

This week the Golden Eagle Football team started the 2009 football season against Alcorn State. It was a much anticipated beginning to the season!! There was excitement all throughout Hattiesburg. There were lots of fans tailgating during the pregame activities, I had never seen such support from the fans! So many, that we set a record attendance at the football game, over 36,000 fans!! It was a great atmosphere. Margie came from Vicksburg to see the game and help with the tailgating fun. I am always so excited when she is here for football season!

One of my favorite parts of game day is the "Eagle Walk." Fans cheer as The Pride, Dixie Darlings, cheerleaders, football coaches and players make their way to the stadium! It is very exciting to cheer and wish the golden eagles a victory before the game. And of course I love seeing Coach Fedora before the game, he even said "hi" to me and waved during the eagle walk!! Fun, fun!!

We all had a fun time tailgating, lots of yummy food and time to visit with friends. Some of my students came to visit me too! It was a warm day and I'm looking forward to some cooler football weather. This Saturday we play UCF and it will be extra special because Kristen and JP will be at the game, which means double tents for tailgating and double the fun. Also, this weekend is the big reveal of the Alumni House renovations and additions. On Thursday night I'm going to take a sneak peek with my grandparents, they have donated a one of a kind eagle statue (with a wing span of 7 feet!!). It is sure to be another fun filled, black and gold weekend in Hattiesburg! Southern Miss...to the TOP!
