Eagle Weekend

This weekend was a fun and busy Eagle weekend. The festivities started early, Thursday night was the preview of the Ogletree Alumni House. Renovations and additions are complete and the new house is beautiful. All of the offices are beautiful and the courtyard is spectacular. There are many great aspects of the house that make it unique. Many donors made all of this possible and their names and contributions are marked throughout the house. It was great to see all the black and gold support. But of course, the huge Eagle Fountain took center stage!

Later that night, Margie got to the 'burg. We immediately got in "game mode." We went to the store and bought what we needed for tailgating on Saturday. Then late Thursday night we began baking some of the goodies for the tent. We have to get an early start on things!

Friday morning was the official ribbon cutting of the Ogletree House. I was not able to attend, but was well represented by my grandparents, Margie, and Kristen and Jonathan. Jonathan's grandfather is Powell Ogletree, the namesake of the Ogletree Alumni House. It was a special weekend for he, Kristen, and his family. It was an exciting time for Southern Miss and I was glad to be a part of it. Later that afternoon, I finally met up with Kristen and JP. I enjoyed catching up with them and the happenings in Tupelo.

In addition to all this, was of course the football game! The Golden Eagles were slated to play the UCF Golden Knights. This was the first C-USA match-up of the season for Southern Miss, and we would soon find out which school was truly "golden."

Saturday soon came and although it was gloomy and rainy, that wouldn't stop game day at The Rock. We had to make the last minute decision to move the tailgating indoors, so Lincoln Road became tailgating central. Which, of course, I loved!!

After much fun tailgating, it was finally game time! We once again were privileged to have amazing seats. We sat in the Touchdown Club and felt like a VIP once again when we got arm bands and an elevator ride to our seats. The game was exciting and the Eagles played great. They beat UCF 26-19. With the win the Eagles are off to a 2-0 start to the season, and dating back to last season, we've won seven straight games!

It was another great weekend, next week Virginia will be at The Rock, and I know we'll be ready to extend that winning streak! Southern Miss....TO THE TOP!
