Happy 4th of July!!
I hope you all enjoyed this great holiday and celebration of our great county! Here are some "sweet" pictures from the day. :)
My church does a wonderful 4th of July party and fireworks display every year. The morning services are spectacular as well. Here is a video from the fireworks tonight.
This year instead of making the typical strawberry/blueberry concoction, I tried this flag cake. I saw it on several blogs and thought I could pull it off. It looked so cool, every slice is a flag! Well I will give props to the blog tutorials for making it seem simple enough, but it was a quite the adventure! I found it on this blog, she also has a link to for a more detailed tutorial.
What she doesn't have is a disclaimer that should read something like this, "You will dirty every utensil, dish and towel in your kitchen.Twice. You will ask yourself numerous times "Why am I doing this again?" You will want to throw cake all over your kitchen. You will make a huge mess and have to stop in the middle of assembling the cake to clean your kitchen just so you can continue. You will have to drive to Michael's after you start making the cake because you will realize that you need a cake leveler. It will take you all afternoon. But when you cut into it everyone will "ooh and ahh" and then you'll possibly consider making it again next year....maybe...."
More fireworks!
And finally, every time I see fireworks I think of that scene from the movie "The Sandlot". It is one of my favorite movies, I remember watching it hundreds of times with my brother when we were growing up. This is the best I could find, this one doesn't have the voice narration, obviously all the real scenes have been deleted for copyright purposes. But anyway, its a great clip!

Wow! What a cake!!! It looks just as challenging as you described :) I'm sure everyone loved it! The cookies are great too!
