Crescent City Classic

Last weekend I ran the "Crescent City Classic." It is a 10K race held in New Orleans during Easter weekend every year. This year marked the 32nd annual CCC. I have always heard fun stories from other people about this race and have wanted to run it for a few years. One thing that makes it so fun is that it's tradition for the runners to dress in some form of costume. Since the Saints are just off their Superbowl win, my friend, Emily, and I decided to wear Saints gear. We were not the only ones with this grand idea, there were Saints jersey and outfits everywhere. I even saw this cute saying on the back of someones shirt during the race:

"Da Shoes....$100
Da Shorts....$50
Da Race Fee....$25

Running da Classic with 'da Who Dat?! Nation'...Priceless, Dawlin'"

Keep in mind we were in New Orleans!

We ran into these fun girls, they called themselves "Who Dat, Gurlz"

We knew we were in for a fun day when we saw these guys!

There were many people dressed as Easter bunnies and chicks. This guy was out of control! I even spotted a duck and girls running with Easter baskets!

Then we saw these funny girls! They were doing warm-up drills in a circle just before the race, it was hilarious! Yes, she's "Rainbow Brite"

The race began at Jackson Square and ended at City Park.

There was a huge turn out for the race, it was a record setting year with over 22,000 people running! It was a fun atmosphere! The majority of the people running where just "having fun" not worried about finishing with a great pace, which was my goal as well. But, of course, there are those super-human runners, the ones at the front of the pack...the KENYANS! Yes, the Kenyans are unbelievable. I've participated in a few races with them and they finish before I can even make it through the crowd of people to the starting line! This year the winner finished the 10K (that's 6.2 miles) in 28 minutes!! Out of Control!! The top runners were all from Kenya and one from Ethiopia. But everyone else was just having fun, dressed in ridiculous outfits and enjoy the sites of New Orleans!

Along the course we saw so many funny people! Here we are with someone dressed as the Lombardi trophy. Please observe the man in the background dressed as a giant duck and the guy with the bunny ears! And what is that girl doing to the left?! ha!

After a fun 6.2 miles we were finished, it was HOT and HUMID but well worth it. I'm hoping to recruit some more runners next year and maybe we can plan a really funny outfit together!
